Periodontal Surgery: A comprehensive surgical course from a Biologic point of view with an emphasis on Perio-Restorative treatment 9 Chapters:
The objective of this 9 part video series is to give a Biologic and Physiologic explanation for why different procedures are undertaken. Each part will build for the next area diagnosing and treating comprehensive perio and restorative cases will become simplistic. Once a case is diagnosed the practitioner will have the knowledge to surgically treat the case for a long term outcome. The key will be simple when completed each tooth treated will be maintainable by the Hygienist and patient long term.
Below is a short explanation for each part:
1. Posterior flap elevation. How to do reflect a flap free from trauma and why. When to do full thickness and partial thickness flaps. The importance of Periosteum and its handling for maximum healing. Why primary closure of a reflected flap is so important from a Biologic point of view.
2. Anterior flap elevation. In order to prevent black triangles it is critical to understand that the reflection of anterior flaps are totally different than posterior flaps. An exact technique will be given along with the instruments involved in designing and carrying out a Physiologically sound reflection of a flap.
3. Suturing techniques will be discussed and the importance of creating immovable flaps that are placed just coronal to the bone for primary closure. The use of interrupted suturing, horizontal, mattress and continuous techniques for stabilization of the flap will be discussed in detail.
4. Soft tissue grafting using palatal tissue will be explained as far as location, thickness of graft and every aspect or removing and placing graft exactly where the surgeon wishes regardless of doing osseous surgery.
5. Tuberosity grafting along with the use of Allograft tissue will be explained. Several videos of various techniques when removing soft tissue and how to protect the wound area shown. The videos will demonstrate location, depth and alternatives to simply removing a graft from the palate.
6. How to diagnose and treatment Biologic Width surgically. Of great importance will be a practical understanding of the Biologic with and its importance in cosmetic crown lengthening and perio-restorative treatment.
7. Restorative preparation for surgery. An in-depth discussion will be given as to the importance of Cores and Provisionals prior to definitive treatment. The basics of Biologic Shaping as it relates to developmental grooves and root surface irregularities along with a full understanding of osseous surgery are explained.
8. Margin location for final restorative in a in depth discussion of why the margins should be placed supra-gingival. Biologic treatment of concavities interproximally as they are managed totally different than buccal and lingual concavities or furcations.
9. Biologic Shaping of molars with a comprehensive explanation and visual photos of periodontal and restorative treatment. A video will clarify such techniques.
